Jairam Ramesh is a Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) representing Andhra Pradesh. He has been a Secretary in the All India Congress Committee (AICC). He has been an advisor to earlier Congress state governments in Karnataka, Rajasthan and Chattisgarh. He has worked in the Prime Minister's Office, Finance Ministry, Planning Commission, Ministry of Industry, Advisory Board on Energy and other central government departments in various capacities. He has also worked on the technology missions programmes. He has been a columnist for various newspapers and magazines including India Today, Times of India, The Telegraph and Business Standard. He is the author of two books and serves on the boards of a number of public service organisations. He has studied engineering, management and technology policy at IIT Mumbai, Carnegie-Mellon University and MIT.
